50th Anniversary

Celebrating 50 Years in the Aggregate Industry

August 28, 1997:

At their Limehouse Pit, located in Halton Hills, J. C. Duff Limited entertained a crowd of over 150 friends and business associates just before Labor Day weekend. Customers, suppliers, local municipal and APAO representatives, truckers and employees joined forces under a large circus tent for a very successful evening. The celebration was in honor of J.C.Duff Limited’s 50th year in business as a sand and gravel producer in the province of Ontario.

A steak and chicken Bar-B-Q was followed by a multimedia presentation created by company president, Ian Duff. It included a video reflecting the company’s early years followed by speeches from past-president Mac Duff and company treasurer, Janice Gee. Ted Chudleigh, M.P.P. for Halton North presented a plaque from Premiere Mike Harris commemorating the event. Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce president, Pat Hatch congratulated the Duff’s and recognized their positive involvement in the community. Representatives of the Aggregate Producers’ Association of Ontario, Dick Pipe and Ian Jennings commented on the Duff’s long standing relationship with the APAO. Doug Reid of Reid Equipment Solutions made a toast and amused the crowd with a rather tame (for Doug) joke. Long-time trucker, Walter Bell reflected on the many years hauling for J. C. Duff Limited provided by himself and brother Clarence, who was also in attendance.

General Manager, Jack McKay, spoke of the many good people that have worked with J. C. Duff Limited over his 42 years with the company. He then introduced retiring office manager, Eileen Kent who spoke of her 18-year relationship with the Duff family and then cut the 50th Anniversary cake for all to enjoy.

During the evening, twelve J. C. Duff Hats were sold for $100.00 a piece to raise funds for the new Acton Arena and Community Centre.

Company president, Ian Duff, presented a cheque for $1,200.00 to Halton Hills Mayor, Marilyn Sarjeantson, the following Tuesday. Mr. Duff acknowledged the generosity and community spirit of the following companies and their representatives:
